Stories from my first rK concert and the Grand Rapids show

Here are my two awesome stories from the first rK show i ever saw (back when i was like 17, Apr. 28 of 2001).  I unfortunetly don't have any pics, because i didn't like rK as much as i do now.  I went with my youth group, cos they really wanted to see the Supertones.  I had this huge headache before we even got there (It was at the gym of my now colllege Trinity Christian).  But, even though in pain, I decided to go ahead and go in the pit with my friends.  While rK were rocking out, I felt a stinging pain in the back of my head and then blacked out.  I awoke to find one of my youth leaders, Glen carrying me out to the hall way.  I later found out that a body surfer had kicked me in the back of the head.  Lucky for me, Glen is a big guy and pulled me out of there before i got trampled.  I had to go to the hospital. I had a concussion and an acute closed head wound.  I had to spend all night at the hospital, with my youth group at my side.  I'm now a ledgend among the Jr. high group, lol.  I did enjoy rK, well, what I saw of them.  I must say, my parents were not happy...  I've been to some very heavy concerts (including all day fests, Metallica, Seven dust and lots of other bands my friends have dragged me to) and I never got hurt.  I go to my first Christian band concert and get kicked in the head.  It was very ironic.

Now this next story is from the show we went to On Oct. 19th 2003 in Grand Rapids MI.  Even after that horrible incident in 2001, my parents still allowed me to attend rK's concerts.  I went to four more since that first show, and got hurt again at this one! lol...  This time, I was careful of the body surfers.  Karen and I adopted wearing hardhats for a couple shows but soon learned how to not get hurt by the surfers.  When we got to the show, we found out it was sold out!  We were horrified because we drove three hours to see them and couldn't get in.  We walked around figuring we could find Matt or someone to get us some tix.  We then met up with Sara, Sam, Grace, Jamie, and Brian (Who are all very awesome!), who also needed tickets.  After talking to Matt H, we got on the list and got in for free!  With our new friends, we made our way to the front during Anberlin and Don't look Down.  We were getting pushed around, but nothing too serious.  there were these really mean guys standing next to us who kept pushing anyone who got too close to them.  Karen, Grace, Sam, Brian, and I all had a hard time keeping each other near by.  We also had to keep each other from falling over (I had these funny little bruises on my arm from Grace's fingers where she was holding on, lol)  I was standing sideways so i could talk to the guys and help them stand up.  Once rK started playing everyone went nuts!  The mean guys pushed everyone else sideways and everyone pushed back.  when they came back, everyone fell over and this rather large muscular male fell onto my legs.  People around me tried to help me up but the guy was still on me.  They ended up hurting my leg even worse and were bending it the wrong way, ouch!  When i finally got up, Karen was holding me up because i couldn't get out of the crowd.  I decided to stay and watch the rest of the show, even though my leg killed.  Grace, Sam and Brian dissappeared after awhile and the mean guys ended up behind me.  During the last song, Pressin' on, they went crazy and this one guy used my shoulders to jump up and down.  He knocked me over and seriously hurt me.  He kept jumping anyways, and Karen had to deck him in the head to get him to stop, (Thanks Kar!)  When it was over, i was screaming cos i thought the dude broke my leg.  Some people helped me and sat me down.  They iced my leg and got me water.  A guard checked out my leg to make sure there weren't any bones sticking out.  (which there weren't, Phew!)  After saying bye to our new friends, I was able to walk with the help of Karen.  We still had presents to bring to Brian (for his Birthday) and i wanted to say hi to Matt T (we promised we would at the Chicago show).  So, we gave brian his gifts, which he loved, and fireman set and a nerf gun.  He said he was gonna set his cat on fire and then out him out with the set we gave him... he then said he would shoot em with the gun...  lol...  Brian is so goofy.  We then said hi to Matt T.  I asked Matt to say thanks to Matt H for getting us in the show and he seemed surprised that we weren't on the list before.  He then told us that we would be on the list from now on, AWESOME!  Official guest list buddies of rK!  but that wasn't the coolest part....  Matt then asked if i wanted help walking out to the car.  I then pulled my keys out and asked him if he knew how to drive.  He said yes and I asked him if he would go get my car, (Karen just turned 15 and can't drive yet.)  So Karen and Matt ran off to my car and pulled it up for me.  While in the car, Matt's sister called him and he said he couldn't talk cos he was driving his friend's car.  (notice he called me his friend!  he also calls us his buddies on the journal!)  So my car is blessed by Matt T.  I felt bad cos it was a mess after being on the road all weekend going to shows, but Matt didn't seem to mind (He said it was exciting cos he hasn't gotten to drive in like a month.)   It was very awesome and made my weekend.  Even though i got hurt, it was the best show to date.  Karen says it's fate, cos if i didn't get hurt, Matt wouldn't have driven my car.  I think she's right!  anyways, if you wanna check out my awesome star shaped bruise from the show and my bandaged up leg, go to my other page:
